Halloween '13 - BIG BIRD from SESAME STREET costume (tutorial)

Happy Halloween!

Yes, it's that time of year again and I bet everybody (at least kids) is elated. For this special spookylicious day I wanted to share one of my favorite costumes I ever got to wear! It was a DIY Big Bird costume and well, it was a hit! It took a little bit of planning (NOTE: those yellow feather boas are a little pricey, so I recommend buying them in advance off of Amazon or eBay to save a little money), but I couldn't be happier with results! See for yourself! And if by any chance you wanted to recreate that look, I have a little tutorial for you as well. Enjoy!

Here's what you will need:

- yellow dress of your choice
- 3-4 yellow feather boas
- orange high thigh socks
- used orange T-shirt (for the big bird's feet)
- pink/purple socks (for stripes on big bird's legs)
- yellow thread
- scissors
- pink and blue eye shadow

For the bird's body:

1. I got my dress at Goodwill. It was a perfect sleeveless dress for the costume, with a strap going around a neck. I cut off the strap and used it later to make gloves for bird's arms.
2. Take your yellow feather boas and saw them together around the dress.
3. Make sure you thoroughly cover the whole dress.

Optional

1. Like I mentioned before, I was lucky to have additional material from the dress and decided to use it for big bird's arms.
2. I simply cut two long stripes, made a hole for my fingers and tied the whole thing around my arms.
3. Also, I saw some leftover feathers to it.

For legs:

1. I got my orange high thigh socks off of Amazon. You can also use tights.
2. For the stripes going around bird's legs, I simply cut the colorful furry socks into stripes creating circles (just like rubber band or hair ties) that will easily stay on your legs. You will need about four stripes for each leg.
3. You can find another way to make your pink/ purple stripes. The reason I used furry socks is because they won't cut off any blood pressure on your legs. Make sure you find something that will be comfortable and save to wear around your legs.

For feet:

1. Cut sleeves off the shirt to use them as a support for top of bird's feet.
2. Then cut out a shape of bird's feet (3 fingers) from the rest of your orange shirt.
3. Make sure you cut out 4 samples of those fingers. You will need to saw 2 of them together and fill them with the rest of shirt's material or something of this sort, so the feet look big enough.
4. Cut two little holes on the bottom side of the big bird's foot and put a piece of material through it. This way you will easily tie the feet to your shoes and make sure they will stay in place.
5. At last, saw the top of the feet (that goes around you ankles) together with your bird's feet.

For make up:

1. The fun part. Big bird's eyes are blue on the bottom eyelid and pink above it. However, I'd say you can play with it according to what you like. Also, as seen in my picture, you can put more eye shadow or less, whatever you feel comfortable with.

P.S. Did I mention my tutorial was featured on laurenconrad.com today?!?!?!?!?!

HOUNDSTOOTH

I'm not even sure where to begin, there are so many things happening in today's post! I mean, all this purpleness, houndstooth cape coat, finished off with some rad looking New Balance sneakers?! I could do three single posts about each one of those items! This outfit is everything I look for in clothes: casual yet elegant, comfortable and feminine all in one.

I have to admit, though, I don't think I would ever come up with a total purple look if I didn't come across these shoes. As soon as I snatched them, I've been wondering what would be the best way to compliment them. I mean, they are pretty much self-complimentary if you ask me, but why don't add even more color? This Express dress is literally made to be matched with those vibrant looking sneakers!

I've spent so much time talking about how I don't ever wear any color
and how I should change that trend. Well, did I do well???

STEAL OF THE WEEK: maxi skirt with a slit

Today a little bit about probably the last warm weather outfit... it's about time I start dressing for the Fall.

Last Sunday was a good day to enjoy some sun and go hang out with Mother Nature (hence the pumpkins).  Aaaaaand to show some legs in the coolest skirt ever, If you didn't notice by now how much I'm obsessed with slits (showing off too much?), you should see it now. I think it's one of the most flattering ways of showing a little skin.

This peek-a-boo sort of thing is a win-win for me (of course in the pictures above wind decided to show off more of my legs than I intended to, but oh well... what can you do! You certainly can't argue with Mother Nature, right?!).

Soooo, about that 'slitty' SLIT skirt. 3 words: What a Steal. The day I found it in the store Ross was clearly on my side, $9,99!!! Too bad summer is over, but you can be sure any time Fall graces us with some sun, this skirt will be out stealing the show. In.so.many.ways.

Have a good weekend each one of you!

POP OF PUMPKINS

I spy... orange every(thing)where.

OK, so I'm slowly getting used to the season. Yes, I cheated with a title of this post, but just a little. Pop of color should mean I finally introduced some color to my wardrobe, but umm.. no. I do see vibrant colors everywhere, though. Is that why everybody is raving about fall? I mean, don't get me wrong. I am enjoying it, but I guess as a summer girl at heart, I'm just having a harder time admitting it ;) A work in progress.

Anyway, today a few pictures from last Sunday's pumpkin patch with my family (a must in the fall season!) and tomorrow a closer look at what I decided to wear that day (yup, still no colorful or fall appropriate clothes on me, but I'm working on it, I swear!).

And here's a little preview (of ''modeling'' on the farm...) to the next post that's coming up...
 stay tuned!

Polish Beauty 1.2

A few months ago I talked about some Polish pride. I meant to start those series, in which I would talk about people from my native country that inspire me, I look up to or simply am pride to say that they represent Poland through their work. Last time I talked about an internationally known top model (more about it HERE), today I want to acknowledge an actress.

With a heavy heart though, I have to say my reason for this post is not so happy. Today, October 5, we lost a beautiful individual way too early. Thankfully though, we are left with her work. I'll definitely remember.

Rest in peace, ANIA PRZYBYLSKA.

Most of us will remember Ania as Marylka from a Polish tv series (or should I say soap opera) Zlotopolscy

What a sad, sad day for my country...
